About

Hjorthagskyrkan stands on the highest point of Jägarberget at Dianavägen 10 and belongs to Engelbrekt parish in the Church of Sweden. Carl Bergsten designed it in red brick, it was built between 1907 and 1909, and the church room, which seats 400, keeps almost all of its original fittings: a wide barrel-vaulted nave between low aisles, wall decoration by Filip Månsson, chancel windows by Eigil Schwab and an altarpiece by Tore Strindberg, who also carved the gilded stag in the chancel. The churchyard is a park and is not used for burials. Since autumn 2018 the parish has run Kulturlördag i Hjorthagen, Saturdays at 15:00: concerts, singalongs and talks, free unless stated otherwise and usually without booking. The autumn 2026 programme includes Advent singing on 28 November, a Lucia concert on 12 December and a Christmas concert on 19 December. The church is open Wednesday to Sunday 12:00–17:00; there is a lift entrance to the left of the front steps, and the nearest metro is Ropsten.
